Track of the Day: Sleep

'Round these parts, the name Sleep conjures heavy doom metal from San Jose, but jump north one state and that's the moniker of a founding rapper from the respected Oldominion crew. Portland's Sleep is part of a hip-hop collective focused on positive rhymes and pulling references from every genre on the radio dial. The emcee's latest single, "Talk About It" takes a spin along the FM, '80s style, with a sample of a real oldie, Real Life's "Send Me An Angel" (Ah, memories. Remember when guys had that "one hoop earring" thing going on, and bands would still ride white horses through foggy forests in their videos? I digress). Sleep uses samples of the synth-driven hit to give a motivation speech about the power of good karma and a pro's perserverance.
