Track of the Day: Screaming Females

Expect to hear a lot more from New Jersey trio Screaming Females--mostly because they're an excellent sideways-titled, banshee-screaming take on post punk and black 'n' bluesy garage rock. But you'll also hear more about these guys and gal because they have big fans in high places. Word has it the short list of big stars giving the Females props includes J. Mascis, Henry Rollins, Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls, and Kristen Hersh of Throwing Muses. Supposedly this grassroots support is floating a band that still doesn't have a booking agent (although they have hired a publicist). And then there's the fact that Jack White offered them the opening slot on his upcoming Dead Weather tour.

Frontwoman Marissa Paternoster is a powerhouse in a black shag hairdo--she wails, croons, shouts, and uplifts, all in the course of one song sometimes, as is the case in the excellent tune, "Bell," which you can hear on Screaming Females MySpace page.
