Skoolin: Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist works a crowd

Keeping hip-hop culture alive isn't an easy thing. That's why props are due to Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist, SF's foremost preservationist of hip-hop ideals and its underground sensibilities. Ren's nomadic True Skool showcases have been one of the consistent places where emerging and even veteran hip-hop artists have ben able to get their live shine on, and his Internet newsletter/magazine not only keeps peeps in the loop about happenings around town, but offers history lessons, interviews, and message boards.

Yesterday, True Skool announced the return of "Fresh," their concert series featuring emerging artists, which happens June 5th at the Elbo Room. The lineup spotlights underground/not-yet-household name artists from the Bay, Southern California, Michigan, Virginia, Portland, Chicago and other areas: One Be Lo, Keelay & Zaire, D Labrie, Mykill Miers, Knox Farm, Toni Hill, and Mic Crenshaw. If past editions are any indication, "Fresh" should easily live up to its name. For info and tix, click here.
