If we took a mid-year count of favorite records in 2009, Bay Area artists would be amongst the highest ranking. So many excellent albums coming from our home turf--among them
Tartufi's
Nests of Waves and Wire. On this melodic batch of post rock, everything seems to move in emotive cascades, from the vocals of Lynne Angel (which are very reminiscent of Throwing Muses) to the loops of guitars and keyboards to the roiling percussion. Check out the tune
"Dot Dash" on the duo's
MySpace page, a song that moves from tolling bells and tribal percussion to Slint-y guitar lines that snake along moodily. Not sure what the song's about, exactly, but it still makes us feel real happy to listen to it.
