Ocote Soul Sounds

It's hard to keep up with all the various offshoots of the Daptone/Antibalas Brooklyn funk nexus, we know--from El Michels Affair to Bronx River Parkway to the Budos Band to Ocote Soul Sounds (who have a new record dropping soon called Coconut Rock on Thievery Corporation's ESL label). What's a groove-lovin' hipster to do? Well, how about take the needle off the vinyl record, put down the mojito, and head over to Mojito May 16, when Ocote Soul Sounds (featuring Antibalas founder and TV on the Radio collaborator Martin Perna) play a rare live set of psychedelic neuva cancion music, along with Senor Oz and Pleasuremaker. If you miss that gig, you've got one more chance to redeem your coolness points, by checking out Ocote the following evening, May 17, at Berkeley's La Pena.
