Back in the Mission: Jazz Mafia

Some might recall the brouhaha which ensured around the closure of the Jazz Mafia's longtime residency at Bruno's, which ended prematurely in November 2008 after band members made public the news of their imminent dismissal following a five-year run. Well, guess what? According to the JM Website, their weekly "Jazz Mafia Tuesday" gigs will be back in the Mission around May, at a new venue called The Redemption Lounge (sounds like a Bob Seger song for 12-steppers, but whatever). Exact location is TBA, though in-the-know spies are betting on the former Duplex.

In other Mission-related music news, as reported by Tablehopper, the site of the former 12 Galaxies will soon be known as the Blue Macaw (sounds like a Jimmy Buffet song for boozehounds, but whatever). Details on the makeover are sketchy at this point, but here's what we know so far: the venue will be a restaurant featuring "international music" (we're guessing this is the same as world music) and will open either in late April or sometime in May.
