Track of the Day: Hex Dispensers

Sometimes you can't help but love a cynic. Case in point: Austin, TX punks Hex Dispensers--who although they're very much alive, still crow about their imagined obit, sneering, "I can't believe that's what they said about me." The song is the group's latest single, "O-B-I-T," and it's a taste of the death obsession that's apparently gonna lurk on their upcoming EP (the other new song they recently posted: "It's YOUR Funeral, Minion."). There's always been something dark about these Texans, though, who take influence from the unholy trinity of the Misfits, the Ramones, and the Wipers. Their rollicking anthems are lists of worries, killings, and insecurities, sped up to a momentum that refuses moping as an option. Theirs is a speed that sounds to be fueled by a scrappy fighter's constant anxiety--and, from the looks of things, many tasty, tasty donuts.
