Back to the Roots: Junior Reid

Rumor has it that reggae superstar Junior Reid has signed to Oakland's ABB Records. Reid has been one of Jamaica's most enduring artists in the dancehall era, from his days as the lead singer of Black Uhuru in the mid and late '80s, to his solo career in the '90s--when he sung the anthem "One Blood" and collaborated with everyone from Coldcut to Guru's Jazzmatazz to Wu-Tang Clan--to his recent resurgence, guesting with The Game and Alicia Keys, and appearing on the remix of M.I.M.S.' "This Is Why I'm Hot." But don't look for a release anytime soon; according to one source, Reid's ABB album could come out in two months, or two years.

In the meantime, you can catch Reid live and direct with the One Blood Band at Berkeley's Shattuck Down Low on April 12, when he appears along with DJs Smoky, Kurious, Mr.E, Unite, and Boomshell. For more info, click this link.
