Track of the Day: The Strange Boys

Last week I got a great little platter of artfully sloppy garage pop from In the Red. It was the CD The Strange Boys...And Girls Club by a band that sounds to either be fronted by an eight year old or is rapidly aging backwards: Austin, Texas' the Strange Boys definitely live up to their name. They're like the Cheater Slicks on cough syrup, all broken hearts and broken chords..and yet possessing a real cool country punk blooze sound.

The front man is the band's real wild card, though, hootin' and howlin' and generally messin' up all the words in a real high pitched delivery. "Heard You Wanna Beat Me Up," is a gem of a sorta apology for screwing your gal, but my favorite of the Strange Boys' brew is "Woe is You and Me." Sorrow never sounded so silly. Check out both tracks at the band's MySpace page here.
