More Tommy Hall & the 13th Floor Elevators: Songs and Video
This week's cover story ["A Long Strange Trip"] on Tommy Hall, the LSD philosopher/electric jug player/lyricist for '60s psych band the 13th Floor Elevators, tells the story of an underground musical visionary. I had limited space for an article on this man with such a long, fascinating history, but I nonetheless attempted to show how Hall first embarked on his psychedelic quest (to get people to a higher spiritual consciousness through acid and song) and where that's taken him today (it involves still getting high and meditating on divine patterns in the solar system). Anyway, you can read the full story here. ![]()

But I also wanted to make sure people could hear and see the Elevators in action. To that end, here's a couple clips of the band back in the day.
(These clips of "You're Gonna Miss Me" have a couple good shots of Tommy playing the electric jug.)
And here's a clip of the band playing "Fire Engine" with a Tommy Hall interview intro and photo montages of the various Elevators.
And finally, a couple songs:
"Splash 1"
Splash 1 - 13Th Floor Elevators
and "Kingdom of Heaven"
