But wait, there's more hope for romantic-minded cheapskates on Saturday! Angel Magik's monthly bash at the Shattuck Down Low offers free roses and sangria for the first 100 ladies, plus DJs Romeo and Young Fyah spinning hip-hop, dancehall and--ooh la la--lover's rock. How can ya lose? Speaking of easy-win options, Club Six has a pretty cool showcase called Be Mine, which combines live art, painting and fashion, with live hip-hop and reggae from the Conscious Daughters, X-Clan (word!), Lutan Fyah, Ras Attitude and more for only $10 presale, $15 door.

Sounds cool, you say, but what if you're so broke a cover charge is out of the question, yet you still want to hear good music? If you're in the Albany area, True Skool DJ Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist will be holding down Kingman's Ivy Room with his deep crates - and there's no cover. Cal student or just look like one? Take your date to the outdoor patio gardens of Berkeley's Jupiter, where DJ Toph One (Redwine/XlR8R) spins...well, whatever the fuck he feels like. But it's all good, though! Plus it's free, so complaining is the last thing you should do. There's always next year for that trip to Paris, right?
