Tim Green Leaves Town, Louder Studios Home Up for Sale

From a little item in the Aquarius Records newsletter: Looks like local rock recording genius Tim Green is pulling up stakes from his Portola area compound, Louder Studios.

The famed basement that committed to tape albums from the likes of the Melvins, Saviours, Howlin Rain, Crime in Choir, the Fucking Champs (duh), and many, many other legendary acts is on the market. Well, not just the downstairs, but the entire house is for sale starting February 28. For a half-million and change, you can own the two-story abode made specifically for rocking out at top volume (I can attest that much noise can be made there by a band without causing a neighborhood disturbance.) Think of all the musical creativity that could be explored inside this San Francisco rock 'n' roll landmark.

As for Green? Don't worry -- he's taking all his Louder equipment and rebuilding his studio over in Grass Valley. I asked him about the move and Green says homes and land are simply much cheaper in that (incredibly scenic) area of the state. His current plans are to rebuild the studio and to also include a guest house for bands to crash in while they're recording. Grass Valley is also right next door to Nevada City, a hotbed for creativity these days thanks to current and former locals like Joanna Newsom, Alela Diane, and Noah Georgeson. (Rumor has it Miranda July and Mike Mills also own land up there.) Are the Sierra Foothills the new Oakland?
