| Dub Selector: DJ Tomas aka Dub I.D. |
Wha' gwan with
Voltage Music maestro DJ Tomas, aka Dub I.D. aka Double Identity? Hole heap a tings, mi yout'. Voltage's fresh-off-di-press comp of future roots, West Coast dubstep, and echo-hop entitled
Dub 4 the Dancefloor dropped January 20th; last week, the selecta premiered a new reggae-oriented monthly, "Roots Roadblock," at Koko Cocktails on Geary/Van Ness; and a new series of live podcasts from Tomas' other crew, Umoja Hi-Fi, are now available
here. And then there's the
Forward Ever blog, (which offers a nice variety of sneak previews, exclusive downloads, industry news, charts and pics), and the "Saturday Night Rockers" show on KUSF. We don't know how he also finds time to edit Wiretap magazine, coach track, and pen music reviews for various publications in addition to all this sound bwoy busy-ness, but it's nice to see longtime DJs still in the game, and constantly adding new facets to their repertoires.
