MP3 of the Day: Sole & the Skyrider Band

Rather than separate the press from the public, experimental post-rock/hip-hop artist Sole (aka Tim Holland) is "leaking" his next promo straight to the fans. The upcoming Sole & the Skyrider Band remix LP ( featuring Thavius Beck, Odd Nosdam, Radical Face, and Andrew Broder, among others) officially comes out Feb. 3 -- not  the label he helped found, Anticon., but rather on his new imprint, Black Canyon. But you can preview the record for free by downloading this mix of personal/political activism and dark, noisy beats 'n' background here. The strings attached to these songs, of course, are that a little voice interrupts the tracks to tell listeners that this is, indeed, a promo. But it's a smart marketing move to allow folks a taste before they order the full meal deal. There are a number of good tracks on offer too, but "A Sad Day For Investors (Astronautalis Remix)" is especially poignant with its minor key piano snippets and snipes at the rich ("I hope if I ever make it to heaven they have a wireless connection).
