Dengue Fever, Pharaoh Sanders and NYE Parties Galore: Your Monday Morning Hangover
Weekend recap by Janine Kahn
We had a somewhat mellow four-day weekend here at the Weekly following a rather wild new year's eve wherein too much bubbly was consumed, rendering much of new year's day a blur. (Raise your hand if you woke at 2 p.m.) In case you missed it, here are some of the parties we managed to peel ourselves off the floor long enough to write about:
Clubs blogger Crystal Akins hit two fancy pants parties in the same night -- at the Westin St. Francis and Sir Francis Drake Hotel, respectively. The NYE Ball was lovely and intimate by comparison, but Passport blew everything away with six rooms representing six continents and more eye candy than some could handle. We're talking geishas on stilts, living paintings, replicas of the Eiffel Tower and our own Golden Gate Bridge. Read Crystal's recap here. Above photo by Hardy Wilson.
Another ASD trooper, Eric K. Arnold, headed to Eighth and Brannan streets, which hosted two NYE bashes of their own. Here's a taste:
"If Eclectic Fever was a carnival, Sea of Dreams was a spectacle. Held at the massive Concourse, it was bigger, more outrageous, and almost completely over the top. A circus theme prevailed on its three stages (or "rings"), and there were plenty of PLUR-affirming clowns, harlequins, disco dolls, and just plain weird/alternative people. There were tons of people in costume, a big portion of those from the Burning Man community, who bigged up Black Rock and brought the playa vibe to Soma."Read the rest here.
Photographer Christopher Victorio landed at the Rickshaw Stop for our fifth party of the night, "Disco 2009." Headliners Shiny Toy Guns played an extended set, and everyone in the photos appears to have had a grand 'ol time.
