MP3 of the Day: An Even Scarier Solstice
'Tis the season for H.P. Lovecraft's fictional creature of horror, Cthulhu. Why, we're not entirely sure. We got our first holiday dose of the Ancient One a few weekends back at Bazaar Bizarre in Golden Gate Park when we ran into some red-eyed ornaments at NifNaks' booth and contemplated picking them up. And SF Weekly Editorial Operations Manager Vicky Walker recently tipped us off on another outlet for those looking for a nightmarish bit of holiday cheer. This one isn't new, but Cthulhu apparently stars in two Christmas carol CDs put out by the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society. Yeah, you read right. The newer album, An Even Scarier Solstice, has such gems as "We Wish You a Scary Solstice," "The World in Terror and Madness Lies," and "Unholy Night." Our Mp3 of the day is "Blue Solstice" (sung to the tune of "Blue Christmas"), which you can download in its entirety here.
Everybody now: "You'll be down in your tomb in cyclopean gloom/And I'll have a blue, blue blue blue solstice." --Janine Kahn
