Holiday Block Parties: Divis. and the Mission

Holiday block parties are a smart idea. I hit the one in Hayes Valley last weekend, where various galleries and boutiques offered delicious drinks (cider with brandy!) and snacks, as well as discounts for folks doing their holiday shopping. This week there are two block parties coming up: tomorrow night the Western Addition has its art walk (on Divisadero between Haight and Geary) from 6 p.m. until "late." Then on Friday the Mission's "Get Local-- Give Local" batch of store discounts and tasty treats runs from 16th Street to 24th Street (mostly on Valencia and Guerrero ) between 6 and 10 p.m. Minnie Wilde is also adding a little music to the bill, with a performance by shoegazers Junior Panthers at 8:30 on Friday night. -- Jennifer Maerz
