Forget The Nutcracker. Nothing says Christmas in San Francisco like a bunch of wickedly funny drag queens acting out episodes of
The Golden Girls. I'm referring, of course, to
Trannyshack's latest series on the elderly Miami roommates. I caught the performance last weekend (two episodes long, with old school commericials --"Where's the beef?" -- piped over the speakers during the show's commercial breaks) and I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. It's tough to pick a favorite -- between ditsy, blank-eyed Rose, vivacious Blanche, and smartass Sohia -- but I think
Heklina really stole the show as the droll, dry-as-a-bone witted Dorothy. "The Golden Girls: The Christmas Episodes" is running at a little theater (Mama Calizo's Voice Factory) through Dec. 27 and is so popular they've added 5 p.m. shows to the mix. Just be sure to reserve now, because many of the performances are already sold out.
