The Lowbrow Art Sale: Calma, Jonathan Viner & Anne Faith Nichols

"Vox Clammantis in Deserto" by Calma

Stephan Doitschinoff, otherwise known as "Calma," is a Brazilian street artist who is currently having a solo show at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. The name of this piece roughly translates into "Voice Calling into the Desert," and is a silkscreen print in a signed and numbered edition of 300. You have the opportunity to get the print framed or unframed. I like how this screenprint kind of has the feel of a block printing. Get It Here.

"A Discerning Youngster" by Jonathan Viner

The always-amazing Jonathan Viner has released a new limited edition print, signed and numbered in an edition of 100. Most of his prints come in smaller editions, but they are also not as affordable as this new one. The size is very generous at 16″x 24″ on the beautiful Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper, and then coated with three coats of matte varnish. Talk about royal treatment. Get It Here.

"NeoFolk" by Anne Faith Nichols

This San Francisco-based artist has been in a huge amount of shows. She has one coming up at the Shooting Gallery in February and is currently showing at the La Luz De Jesus Gallery. This print is based off of one of the paintings from that show. All of Anne's prints come sealed with a certificate of authenticity as well as a postcard. I really love the imagery she uses in her work, as well as the waves and the flat elements contrasted against the rendered bits. Get It Here.

"Unexpecting" by Ana Bagayan

This Los Angeles-based artist has had her work in such publications as Rolling Stone, Spin, Diesel and many others. She has a very playful, surreal style, much like you would see with Mark Ryden, but as you can see in the print here ,there is a twisted element to the art. This print is from her newly launched Etsy store; it is signed and numbered in an edition of 100 and is 7" x 10". I love the treelike horns, as well as the "meat" cutaway on that deer. Get It Here.

"Flight of a Fool" by Dan May

The Corey Helford Gallery is currently having a show where all the work is inspired by clowns, freaky as they may be for some people. There were some really amazing paintings in the show, and one of them that really struck me was this one by Dan May. He has a great way of creating these otherworldly characters, and even though this one has the icons you would see in a clown outfit, it doesn't look like your standard clown. The print is 9" x 11" and is only $30. Get It Here.
