Buckethead, YouTube Live! and Eddie Money: Your Weekend Hitlist
By Melissa Baron
The sun finally came back out and with Thanksgiving on the way it's best to enjoy this weekend before inevitable family drama ensues. Here's what's going on:
Friday night Sunlandic dance explosion Of Montreal play the Regency Center Grand Ballroom. For those of you who haven't seen them before, expect dancing, sweating, bright colors and possible nudity. Tickets are $25.
There's also an incredible show in Redwood City (if you can get there): Buckethead brings his bizarre blend of metal and funk to the Fox Theatre. Not to be missed.
Looking for literature? Toni Morrison, the amazing author whose books include Sula and Song of Solomon will be speaking at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium (1111 California St.) as part of the City Arts and Lecture series.
Friday night also marks the beginning of the San Francisco Hip Hop Dancefest at the Palace of Fine Arts.
On Saturday at 5, YouTube goes Live:
"YouTube Live! is, first and foremost, a celebration of the site's vast user communities; everyone from bedroom vloggers to world-famous rock stars, musicians, comedians, athletes, artists and more. Part concert, part variety show and part party, the event will bring to life many of the amazing videos and talent that YouTube viewers have already made popular on the site. The two-hour event will take place on November 22, 2008, in front of a live audience in San Francisco; an audience of millions will be able to experience a simultaneous live stream on the site."
Saturday night at 7 (or Sunday afternoon at 3) head to Zellerbach Hall at UC Berkeley for the 40th Anniversary Concert/International Taiko Festival. The event includes special guests from Japan and a whole lot of bad ass music. Feel like hearing some music in the city? Brooklyn's Yeasayer brings their self described "Middle Eastern-psych-pop-snap-gospel" to Bimbo's 365. If you stayed over in Redwood City after Buckethead there's great news for you! Saturday night Eddie Money plays at the Fox Theatre! Take me home tonight, baby.
On Sunday night, chill out with Matisyahu at the Warfield. The Brooklyn native will bring his irritating melting pot of reggae and hip-hop to all the hip bros of the Bay Area. Tickets are $25 and the show starts at 7:30. Still wanna get high but not a fan of Matisyahu? Never fear! Cheech and Chong will be at the Nob Hill Masonic Center.
There's your Weekend Hitlist!
