MP3 of the Day: Nothing People
In poking around the lineup for this weekend's Budget Rock festival, I've become smitten with the online offerings of Orland, Ca. band Nothing People. The group's no wave sci fi aesthetic is self-described as the sound of "fuzz, echo and smoke;" other critics liken the group to Debris, and I hear bits of Eno-style art-glam hooks in there as well. Their music is a buncha dirgy, dirty, downward-spiral looking goodies, recommended also for fans of the Intelligence's nervous buzzing (although Nervous People are a tad more polished). So many good songs on their MySpace page, but I'd recommend most "Sickness" and "In the City." If you like what you hear, grab a copy of their limited-edition LP, Anonymous, here, and check them live at Budget Rock on Saturday, Oct. 25. -- Jennifer Maerz
