MP3 of the Day: Kimya Dawson

I'll admit, my favorite part of the newish Kimya Dawson song "Sunbeams And Some Beans" (off Alphabutt) comes at the very end. It's there that Dawson gives the sweetest little spoken-sung advice: "My grandma said to me/If you only have one bean/And you meet someone with no bean/You should give them half your bean/'Cause you will be less hungry/ if you eat just half a bean/Then if you eat a whole bean/In front of somebody with no bean." The way she says it, at the end of a song that pits farmers who share against corporate thugs who rob, is so earnest, and yet it's a parable on sharing that makes perfect sense. It lifts those heavy clouds of cynicism listening to this cute little track, if only for a moment. -- Jennifer Maerz
