There are those mornings where you're particularly not into taking any shit from anyone. That's when it's best to close the door, pull the shades, and crank the volume on Total Fucking Descruction's upcoming record, Peace, Love, And Total Fucking Destruction. Philadelphia's maelstrom of metal is the sonic middle finger best used to pulverize petty, everyday annoyances. With song titles like " Biosatanic Terroristic Impulse" and "Let's Fucking Do This!!!" and "Nihilism, Emptiness, Nothingness and Nonsense," TFD's Richard Hoak is the devil to Andrew WK's angel. Both artists are one-man powerhouses commanding bombastic takes on metal's brute machismo. But where WK preaches light, Hoak evokes darkness via grindcore, his songs sarcastic, war-mongering taunts of metallic screams, hummingbird-speed beats, fucked up sound effects, and, occasionally, bits of melody or a riff from Rush. The act dips slightly toward tongue in cheek, with Hoak (ex-Brutal Truth) calling himself a drummer/frontman/lyricist/performance artist/social critic. But the music puts typical grindcore on steroids, bringing on a sonic apocalypse at speeds that leave even TFD's mastermind breathless by the middle of "Biosatanic Terroristic Impulse."
