MP3 of the Day: Moondoogies

Other areas of the country may have their various icon fixations, but in Seattle these days it seems Neil Young never rusts. One current example, The Moondoggies, a band with a name like a microbrew that really kicks out the jams. The song we have on offer today, "Changing," takes a man's inner struggle to open up to the one he loves and turns it into a loud, rowdy, rousing group chorus as the dude wavers between being more trustworthy and realizing he's just too burned out to be anything different. You'd never guess such an inner argument was difficult, though, listening to the music alone: the song is a gorgeous, dark tangle of electric guitar, Rhodes organ, and "cosmic country" gone wild. Incredible track. And available for free download from Moondoggie's labels' website, Hardly Art. The Moondoggies, and all their heavenly harmonies, land in San Francisco on Oct. 18 at Slim's. -- Jennifer Maerz
