MP3 of the Day: Fuck Buttons
In name alone, Fuck Buttons are easily confused with with Fucked clutter (Fucked Up, Holy Fuck), but the twosome's sound stands alone. The Bristol, England act ramps anxiety through static -- a hearty buzz lays the groundwork for the band's best songs. Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power stack the effects between the static thicker than a Dagwood sandwich, so their tracks have everything from tribal drumming to echoing seagulls to distorted vocals rants caged inside that white noise. Their 2008 album, Street Horrrsing, is one of my favorite discs of the year, and live their set is a sonic science lab of laptops, suitcases, and control consules, which they leap around and manipulate with mad energy. Check out my favorite Fuck Buttons track, "Colours Move,". Tonight the band performs live, opening for Mogwai at the Grand. -- Jennifer Maerz
