MP3 of the Day: Everest
Nothing like getting signed to a record label headed by a gigantic rock idol. Los Angeles act Everest was lucky enough to be added to the roster at Vapor Records, the label run by none other than Neil Young. The fit is easy to hear, as Russell Pollard's slow drawl and the band's country rock ballads take much influence from the iconic songwriter -- although Everest goes down a softer rock path. Their music fits with other mellow indie pop acts in the Southern California scene, and they reference artists like the late Elliott Smith and Earlimart on their Web site. The band is coming to town for Outside Lands next weekend, and for a little taste of their sound, you can check out "Rebels in the Roses" here. -- Jennifer Maerz
