International Pop Overthrow fest hits S.F.

International Pop Overthrow was the name of an album by a favorite band of mine when I was still in high school (anyone else like Material Issue back in the day? Loved that Chicago pop act). It's also the title of an indie pop music festival that hits Los Angeles, Chicago, NY, Boston, and London, among other cities. In San Francisco, it packs seven bands a night into the Rockit Room between Aug. 12 and the 16th. The artists are mostly local, and from the lineup I can recommend Josh Fix, whose catchy power pop has already been featured as an NPR song of the day. Fix performs at 9:30 on the 12th.
