All-Ages Matinees Start This Sunday at Yoshi's on Fillmore
I dunno how excited the kids will be about eating raw eel, but if you want to expose your offspring to international culture, the San Francisco branch of Yoshi's is the place to be this weekend. On Sunday, Aug. 10, the S.F. jazz club begins its series of all-ages Sunday afternoon matinees with a 2 p.m. performance by Zimbabwe's Oliver Mtukudzi & the Black Spirits. Weekly freelance writer Ernest Barteldes says about Mtukudzi: "In a live setting, Mtukudzi shows incredible energy, and the music is contagious. Though the sound is African in essence, the listener can recognize several influences jazz, reggae and other beats, as well as Western instruments (electric guitar, keys) alongside native drums and other elements." Tickets for kids ages 17 and under are just $5; adults of voting age pay $20. See the Yoshi's calendar for information about this and other upcoming Sunday matinee shows, including concerts by Kenny Burrell, Jacqui Naylor, Sadao Watanabe, and others TBA. — J. Graham
