Photographer's notes: Despite the $12 cover, OhDang! Magazine's Streets of Gold at Cafe Cocomo was a great post Independence Day event with hours of hip-hop music, live painting by artists such as Amanda Lyn and Stevie B, free giveaways from Gold Coin and Atlas, and unique merch like airbrushed hats, giant teeshirts and yummy decorative cupcakes.

It was also the CD release party for Bay Area hip-hop artist Hopie Spitshard, ending with performances by Million Bucks (Conceit and Boac) and Bambu. Bambu struggled with his vocals due to a cold, but the crowd of fans didn't seem to mind.

The event was open to all ages but alcohol could only be consumed on the top floor, so the stage crowd was limited to the under-aged and hungover fans. If Cafe Cocomo wasn't down on Indiana Street, far off of the regular bus lines, more people could have seen some great local artists and hip-hop...and lounged on the great sunny upper deck in between sets.

The party ended at 6pm, continuing on that night for Doin' It After Dark: The official Streets of Gold after party at 111 Minna. As enticing as the title suggested, my head couldn't swallow another sweaty dance floor hangover. --Gretchen Robinette
