Tiny Vipers' Jesy Fortino is indeed a petit lady -- both in physical stature and in her voice, which sounds much like Joanna Newsom's elfin lilt. But her music carries hefty emotional muscle. Using an acoustic guitar and melodies full of melancholy, Fortino plays the indie singer blues with such beauty it kinda makes you happy to be sad along with her. She's in town for this week's Mission Creek Music Fest, playing the Hemlock with Lazarus tomorrow night. Check out Tiny Vipers' "On This Side" here. -- Jennifer Maerz
