MP3 of the Day: Morning Benders Cover The Ronettes

(Morning Benders by Jason McDonald/jasonmcdonaldphotography.com)
Local indie act the Morning Benders make plenty of sweet power pop songs from their own imagination. But this week they've released their versions of other people's music, covers ranging from the Smiths to Roy Orbison and Randy Newman. The songs are stripped back to basics -- acoustic guitars, tambourines, handclaps, and Chris Chu's bedroom croon giving each track new life. Today we're featuring the Morning Bender's cover of the Ronettes' "Why Don't They Let Us Fall in Love?" These songs were all recorded in the band's apartment, and are available for free download as The Bedroom Covers from the band's blog page (where I would also recommend listening to their version of the Cardigan's "Lovefool"). -- Jennifer Maerz
