Michael Franti Finalizing Roster for 10th Annual GGP Power to the Peaceful Fest
True, the thought of a day-long "yoga jam" sends shivers down my spine (it's a genetic aversion to morally flexible ethnic appropriations, e.g., "Indian culture is so spiritually enlightened, provided you ignore the wife-burning funerals, the caste system, the nuclear weapons, etc."). But a free, all-ages music fest in Golden Gate Park is hard to oppose on any grounds. If you're the kind of person who isn't terrified by the thought of being surrounded by 1,000 yogis, go to the website for Michael Franti's yearly Power to the Peaceful Festival to peep the lineup for this year's concert: Franti's band Spearhead will be there, of course, along with an acoustic Ziggy Marley, Warren Haynes of Gov't Mule, DJ Cheb i Sabbah, King Britt, Pam the Funkstress, and more. The event begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, in the Speedway Meadow section of GGP. Thankfully for me & my yoga allergies, Suicide Prevention Week starts the very next day. — J. Graham
