Marina Clubbing, Gavin as Gardener, Renegade Craft Fair, King Khan and Sara Bareilles: Your Monday Morning Hangover

Good grief, this weekend did not stop to catch its breath for a second. Music Editor Jennifer Maerz took a walk on the wild side at the Great American Music Hall Friday night, where people swapped spit, took their tops off and got in fistfights as King Khan and the Shrines stormed the stage. Jennifer writes:

"When I interviewed Khan last week, he gave that same line about how people get themselves into trouble when he performs, and I thought, yeah, whatever. I wasn’t expecting the steep decline of western civilization that accompanied last night’s performance at the Great American. I also didn’t realize how much fun that decline could get.

Full review, complete with crazy photos, over here.

Also on Friday night: Weekly staff writer Lauren Smiley crashed Bimbo's for an equally crowded but not quite as crazy James Hunter set. There she encountered “Why ya takin’ notes?” Guy who -sigh- proceeded to tell her how to write a review. Read all about that here.

Saturday started early for our Edward Paik, who was in attendance for Slow Food Nation's Victory Garden planting at Civic Center Plaza. Always game for a photo-op, the prettyboy mayor and his arm candy girlfriend were on hand, and actually got soil in their respective manicures for the occasion! See Gavin and Jennifer dig in the dirt here.

Layout Editor Audrey Fukuman got bloggy Saturday afternoon for the Laf A Lots Car Show outside Thee Parkside. See some of the snazzy rides in attendance, and Audrey's notes on the live acts present, here.

On Saturday night, Weekly Managing Editor Will Harper caught the pretty and polka-dotted Sara Bareilles at the Fillmore. Will writes:

About half-way through her 75-minute set, the boys in the band exited the stage, leaving Sara to play what she called her "female anthem," the wonderfully clever "Fairytale." (Despite the fact that I have a penis, this "female anthem" is my favorite song of hers.)

Read the entire review, complete with a bonus Sara anecdote for fans, here.

Also on Saturday night: Crystal Akins braved the Marina club scene - she planned on rubbing elbows with cougars, but instead found post-collegiate bros with libidos in over-drive, stilettos, beer pong and violence! Read her club night recap here, and flip through her start-to-finish slideshow.

On Sunday, Ariel Soto joined artsy-crafty types at the Renegade Craft Fair at Fort Mason. She watched as punk-circus marching band Mucca Pazza kept the place hopping and took photos of cute plush owls, tea cup chandeliers and then some.
