Name: Chris Bond, aka DJ Forever21
Club night: I do Friday nights at the Beauty Bar, my longest-running gig. I've been at it intermittently for like five years now. I also do a Sunday weekly party called French Kiss at Pink alongside my homie MyKill. We're nearing our one-year anniversary and we've been lucky to land some really amazing guests such as JD Samson (Le Tigre) Larry Tee, AC Slater, Killdanoise, DJ Ayers, just to name a few. I also play at various other clubs and bars all over the Yay Area.
Style of music you spin: It really varies from gig to gig (and depends on the crowd) but for the most part electro, hip-hop, disco, 90's house, and a lot of Baltimore club, as it has a kinda electro/pop crossover appeal that translates really well on the dance floor. I play a lot of my own edits and remixes too. I like to try and personalize songs and make them sound bugged out
and different.
Name of a track you can't get out of your head: "Coming to America (The System)" --the theme song from the movie. I fell asleep watching it and that song was playing over and over all night on the menu screen. Now I'm thinking of doing a remix. It's a dope song, nice 80's drums, sweet synth, stuttery vocals.
Dream DJ partner: Dream DJ partner? Tiesto of course! Wait, no, just kidding! The resident DJ at Esta Noche! Dood has the most insane high energy Latin tranny bangers, I would love to do a party with him!
Favorite DJ experience: I played a sweet 16 a couple of months ago at the Hyatt. It was crazy. All these high school kids drinking fun punch and bouncing off the walls. Totally insane, complete with moms & grandmas.
Worst request: HA! Well that tends to change from month to month, but the all time worst is a toss up between "Who Let the Dogs Out" and Bryan Adams' "Everything I Do," which goes completely beyond irony and just makes me cringe and feel very uncomfortable.
Most clichéd DJ track right now: I don't know but I'm sure I'll be playing it tonight!
Most treasured vinyl score: Hard question. I have a ton of punk and hardcore records and a bunch of hip hop 12's that are super duper rare. Oh Dramarama anything, anything made me happy!
Musical mantra: Do it for the love or don't do it at all (cliché I know, but true)
Question we didn't ask you but you often ask yourself: What's the next big thing? Answer: Neugaze
Next time we can see you spin: Every Friday night at Beauty Bar and at French
Kiss at Pink on Sundays. I also have a ton of other dates up on MySpace.
