Don't Fret, Emo Fans: The Alkaline Trio Hasn't Forsaken You Entirely

Categories: Music

Chicago's Alkaline Trio may have signed to a major label — thus leading to the grotesque over-production of the band's new album, Agony & Irony — but the boys still want to be your friends. Even if you don't purchase their corporate compact disc, or fork over $19.99 for their Hot Topic-sponsored tourdate at the Fillmore, you can still see the A3 play live for free at Virgin Mega Store: starting at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 28, the trio plays a brief live set along with tourmates The Fashion. The two bands are then joined by Oakland's own American Steel for that night's Fillmore concert. Hopefully the onstage sound at both events will have more sizzle and spark than the emotionless ProTools blur that is (A3 frontman) Matt Skiba's voice on Agony & Irony. Rather than listen to that Sony/BMG/Epic release, do as a younger Skiba himself once sang: "Put [The Misfits'] Walk Among Us on and turn it up." — J. Graham
