Wake Up, Time to Die...Er, Wait, I Mean "Dance"

Blade%20Runner%201.JPGIf you're of the common opinion that the new Indiana Jones movie kinda blows, this Wednesday you can remember a time when Harrison Ford starred in good movies — movies like Blade Runner. Although something of a critical flop itself upon initial release, the sci-fi film about cyborgs and assassins certainly looked freakin' awesome, and its aesthetic still inspires to this very day. Hence this Wednesday's event at the Rickshaw Stop: The Blade Runner Bash. I dunno if there'll be flying cars or robot owls or Darryl Hannah spray-painting her face or anything, but the Rickshaw's Asian decor sorta fits the film's vision of a future Los Angeles where Sino-Japanese culture actually outsizes Latino culture and noodles are easier to buy than burritos. On hand to provide the soundtrack are — no, not Vangelis — the loose-limbed funkers of Beatropolis, dreamy electro-pop trio Return to Mono, dubstep DJs from the Grime City crew, and DJ Kozee of Redline SF. While you're dancing, you can try to figure out how a movie made back when the Atari 2600 ruled the gaming world still manages to seem so beautifully futuristic. And when are we gonna finally get those flying cars, anyway? — J. Graham
