Saturday: The Matches, Scissors for Lefty and Brilliant Red Lights at The Fillmore
(Click the photo for a full Saturday night slideshow by Mike and Jen Cash.)
Photographer's notes: The crowd grew to fill the block in front of the famed Fillmore as everyone waited for the doors to open at 8pm. Excited phone calls and chat of the bands they were about to see was heard from almost every person you passed. As they filtered up the stairs, some ran to secure a prime spot while others lined the merch area. This crowd was ready for some fun!
First up was Brilliant Red Lights. They hit the stage with their techno pop style, a blend of crunchy guitar, banging drums and catchy lyrics. Their performance of "Tender Colors" was a stand out crowd pleas-er!
Next Scissors For Lefty surprised us with their very own Ring-Master (Brandon, guitarist Robby Garza's eighth-grade son) who announced, "Live from Saturday Night, its..." The crowd screamed in reply as front-man Bryan Garza brought us to our feet with the very first note. Scissors played some new material as well as our favorites from their album, "Underhanded Romance." This band is ready to go bigtime, and we wouldn't be shocked to hear them on the radio at any moment.
The headliners took the stage decked out in their signature White and Red. Shawn Harris gave props to Scissors and BRL, while a roar of delight resounded throughout the room. Bathed in lights of red and blue, the band gave us just what we wanted and kicked our asses all the way to the last chord. The Matches were stellar shining stars and ended the night to thunderous applause. --Jen Cash
