Over the past 30 years Hip Hop has gone from an outlet for impoverished youth growing up in the Bronx to a multi-billion dollar industry. We have seen Hip Hop packaged and sold back to the same disenfranchised kids who created it. But what is the exchange rate for cultural currency? And can the corporate conglomerates that make up today's media be trusted to serve as gatekeepers for one of the most powerful creative expressions of our time?

Join Distortion 2 Static Thursday June 26th at the Women's Building from 6:30-8:00 p.m. as we present a culmination of our exclusive segment entitled 'Word on the Street' and follow with an in-depth panel discussion with varying opinions on exactly what role the media has played in Hip Hop's evolution. This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored in part by the San Francisco Arts Commission (www.sfartscommission.org) and the Bay Area Video Coalition (www.bavc.org).
