Better than: The other ubiquitous hipster dance parties in the Tenderloin.

While the rest of San Francisco is sleeping, an eclectic mix of hipsters and tourists are raging downtown amid the tall concrete facades every Wednesday night from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Infatuation made its debut at Vessel back in March and it’s been blowing up ever since with DJs Rhcrd Oh? and Sleazemore playing you a good mix of disco, hip-hop, and electro in a club unlike any other hipster dance party has ever seen.

Vessel is chic, equipped with modern furniture, bizarre driftwood centerpieces, and imbued with dimmed red lighting. Not only are the unisex bathrooms so clean you could eat off the floor, soap and lotion are floating above the mint candles burning next to the sink. The bathrooms are also the epicenter of socializing (probably because it’s the only place you can hear anything). When you’re used to dive bars that smell like feces and Pine Sol with decaying toilets, this place is heaven and it’s so disorienting that you’re beside yourself.

“People were used to shitty dive bars and they were scared of this, but they’re used to it now,” said Sleazemore (a.k.a. Corey Sizemore).

It gets better.

There’s no cover charge and two drinks go for the price of one. I was skeptical; it was too good to be true, and at precisely 10:43 p.m. my worst nightmare surfaced in the form of a group of middle-aged women dancing to some deranged mix of Chip Taylor’s “Wild Thing” in one big circle. Stay calm. . .after two hours elapsed this place was off the hook with dance moves previously unknown to my eyes.

I was warned by Rchrd Oh? that tonight was no indicator of previous nights with big headliners and 300+ party goers, but thank you sir, your nautical theme did just fine bringing out probably 100+ on a Wednesday night where girls were dancing on tabletops near a guy in a full blown sailor’s outfit.

Pass the insanity and photographers Parker Day and Nate Always set up a quaint area in the back for photos, bringing props like sailor hats and anchors so you and your BFF (best friend forever) can huddle together and look cute.

The crowd starts filtering out around 1:45 a.m. or so probably because they stop serving drinks shortly before that.

Some Do’s and Don’ts:

DO drive if you want to. Parking is abundant and yellow zones are fair game after 6p.m. when all of Union Square starts to shut down.

DON’T bring in your sweater, a huge purse, or wear layers. After you start dancing like a maniac, you’ll thank me.

DO look cute because your dirty chucks and tired Diesel jeans will make you feel ugly.

DON’T make out with someone in the corner because everyone will make fun of you.

Critic’s Notebook
Personal Bias: Everyone wants to be your friend if you’re holding a camera.
Random Detail: DJ Commodore 69 and DJ Forever 21 graced Infatuation with their presence.
By the way: It smelled like peaches inside.
