Bohemian Carnival, Laughing Squid, Heights Ultra-Lounge and R.E.M.: Your Monday Morning Hangover

Well the weekend's gone the way of the piss and brewski in the gutters. But it was a nonstop party train to be proud of - what with Friday night's Bohemian Carnival which is still giving our Edward Paik clowneriffic nightmares. Read his notes and flip through some slides here.

On Saturday Night, the very cool Laughing Squid turned 13 and Gretchen Robinette shot the spectacle at CELLspace. Damn those kids are popular - the line to get in curled around the block. They had beer bots! And chocolate! And free psychedelic portraits for party-goers. Read Gretchen's take here and envy her for being there after seeing her photos.

If you wondered where S.F.'s surplus of pretty people suddenly disappeared to Saturday night, they were probably packed shoulder to shoulder at the Heights Ultra Lounge for the club's grand opening bash. Eater SF readers predicted it would be "Ultra doucherific!!!" but Mike Cash - who shot the event for us with his wife Jenny - says it was actually worth the hype. What a concept. Well, whether or not you agree with Mike, give the Cash's club photos a look-see. You might very well be in them.

Meanwhile, over the bridge but not so far away, SF Weekly ME Will Harper caught R.E.M., Modest Mouse, The National and some dude with a massive zit on his neck at The Greek. Read his review, which is studded with awesome photos by Christopher Victorio, over here.

Other weekend happenings: Eddie Paik also hit up the Chocolate and Chalk Art Festival in Berkeley. Photos and review to follow over here. And Benjamin Wachs - ever obsessed with the Light Brown Apple Moth posse - attended a "Stop the Spray!" fashion show. He borrowed our camera so we expect eco-friendly fashion photos on top of his trademark snark. --Janine Kahn
