After 25 Years, Yaz Is Back: Synthpop Icons Play O-Town on July 7
In the short time between his stint writing hits like "Just Can't Get Enough" for Depeche Mode and penning the bouncy beatmusik that made Erasure global best-sellers, keyboardist Vince Clarke teamed up with throaty & soulful female singer Alison Moyet as Yaz. (Or, for those Brits among the readership, Yazoo.) The duo lasted only two years, breaking up in 1983, but released two influential albums and several hit singles including "Situation" and "Don't Go." Now, with a box set of remastered tracks, remixes, and bonus DVD in the works, Clarke and Moyet — who rarely played live during their heyday — are mounting an international tour that comes to the Paramount Theatre on Monday, July 7. Tickets can be purchased here, while you can find out more about Yaz/Yazoo at their official site or their MySpace page. Thankfully, Clarke no longer has that naff haircut you see above...one of the few benefits of thinning hair, I guess. — J. Graham
