Finally another work week down and only one more to go until glorious memorial day. Let's hope the glorious weather drags on because this weekend is packed full of eating, drinking and playing.
On Friday night head over to Anu Bar in SOMA for Grime City: Three Year Anniversary. This is what the bar has to say about it: "No matter what you call it — garage, grime, 2-step, dubstep — London's chest-pummeling indigenous music has had a tough time catching on in the US. Lucky for us, the DJs at Grime City have been bringing San Franciscans up to speed on the sub-low sound for the past three years with a little help from international guests like Rossi B & Luca, Juju, and Kid Kameleon." Celebrate, dance and party. Did I mention it's FREE? If the DJ scene isn't for you, Indiana's Murder By Death play Bottom of the Hill. They show is all ages and tickets are only $10-13. If you have a car, you're in luck. Latin lover/hottie Juanes plays the HP Pavilion in San Jose. Brings back fond memories of Spanish class sing alongs.
Saturday marks the first day of Oysterfest (which is surprisingly a music (not food) centric festival). Saturday's lineup includes Dropkick Murphys and Juliette and the Licks. When you're done, drink loads of wine at Uncorked! in Ghirardelli Square. The event offers an opportunity to indulge in many fine wines as well as gourmet eats. If you want to get your shop on, venture to the Mission for the Mission Bazaar. The event will be packed full of crafts, clothes and DJs. That night UK's the Kills play at Slims. The show will certainly be packed full of hipsters and wannabe Cory Kennedys. Get there early to get your spot in front and don't forget your Nylon magazine. Or for some family friendly fun, Film Night in the Park! This weekend at 8pm the Wizard of Oz is playing in Dolores Park. Don't forget the picnic!
Sunday is the Bay to Breakers race as well as day two of Oysterfest. She & Him headline Sunday's Oysterfest show. They're potentially the cutest band that has ever existed in the world. Plus, you know you want to see Zooey before that new M. Night Shyamalan movie "The Happening" comes out and you become appalled with her. Along with Bay to Breakers some goofballs decided to start the Million Pirate March. Advice to interested marchers: "A well stocked pirate is a happy pirate. Here are a few things ye might find
useful t' be bringin' fer the march: Comfortable walkin' shoes, tortillas fer thowin in the air (and maybe fer takin' over other floats), a pirate ship, yer own rum/beer/water, yer parrot, yer finest piratatical clothin'. And ladies, there is nothing wrong with bein' a "sexy" pirate The Captain has seen enough wenches in his day..." Ridiculous. That night, either head to the Independent for the French Kicks or Bimbo's for El Perro Del Mar (they're Swedish!). Really either show will surely kick ass.
