The Lowbrow Art Sale: Joe Sorren, James Jean & Roland Tamayo

Joe Sorren "La Luna"
It's been a while since I have shown any prints from Joe Sorren, he really doesn't release that many and when he does they don't last very long. This one is from a very generous edition of 1000, it's signed and numbered and is 23" x 31". I love the colors he used in this, and the figure features that great style that he has in so many of his works. There are actually a few different prints available at this gallery, but I think the colors and layout help this one stand out the most.

James Jean "The Willow Tree 1"
I'm a huge fan of the work of James Jean and have featured prints of his quite a few times in these articles. His work is extraordinary and his prints are amazing looking. The print featured is from his "Willow Tree" series, and is an open edition print. It looks like you have a choice between six different "Willow Tree" prints, each one looks great. They are all Ultrachrome prints on cotton rag paper.

Roland Tamayo "Battle for my Affection"
The first time I saw the work of Roland was for the "I Am 8 Bit" show a few years back, since then he has been in many group shows and currently has a solo show going on at the Gallery 1988 in SF. He works in the video game industry, and has quite an amazing style that is obviously influence by it. To me his style is very similar to Nathan Ota, in terms of how well Roland can use acrylics, and how much detail he packs into the smaller works. This print is limited to 100.

Deseo "Up Back"
This Missouri based artists works with graphite and digital to create his works. His art was inspired by the work of Katsuya Terrada, Alphonse Mucha & most notably Gil Elvgren. He has a great style and even though most of his works seem to be in digital, his understanding of traditional materials really helps with making these pieces look as though they are tangible. This print is 14" x 18", not sure if its limited.

Camilla Engman "Winter Darkness"
An artist out of Sweden, Camilla received her MFA in Art from the University of Gothenburg. She works in a variety of media, and all of her art has this amazing "folk" look to it. This specific piece kind of looks like the type of art that would be used for a Sigur Ros poster. You can get a 6.5" x 8" or a smaller version of this print, the larger is limited to 100.
