Club revamping, free hugs and fake dreds - Your Monday Morning Hangover

Yes, the weekend's been cruelly snatched from our feverish fingers yet again. But before we curse gods we don't believe in and make a mad dash for the espresso machine, let's briefly relive the glorious downtime.

ASD kick-started the break at SoMa's Club 330 Ritch, which is back in action after a mondo makeover. Photographer Gretchen Robinette captured the Friday night scene and all the beautiful people. You have our permission to ogle to your heart's content.

Saturday was all about torch protests and. . .you guessed it, electronica! The Chronicle reports that around 200 gathered at Union Square for a Human Rights Torch rally. Not bad, unless you factor in the fact that organizers were hoping for 2,000. Our Snitch staff will be on hand for the actual Olympic torch relay and any subsequent protests, so see ya there.

In other Sat. news, Liz Iversen stood in the darkness of The Mezzanine and was completely blown away by British IDM duo Autechre. Read her Sunday morning recap here.

On Sunday, ASD jogged past the outrageously loud Jesus preachers by the Powell Street cable cars and neatly evaded some folks in funny masks holding up "Free Hugs" signs. In retrospect, we prolly should have given in and found ourselves featured in one of these vids. But with our luck, it was probably a grand pickpocket scheme. . .

We landed at the Apple Store where hundreds wound around the block for a freebie Counting Crows show on the second floor. Berkeley boy Adam Duritz had a wounded left heel from bouncing around at a previous show, but that didn't stop him from leaping up on the seats in front of us. Yes, his hair is still every inch as bad as Will Harper and Joe Eskenazi told you weeks ago. But he's quite a lovely person with those purdy big brown eyes. Watch our video and flip through some photos while you're at it.

P.S. While we were there, we ran into Gina Kessler of San Francisco Magazine. She tells us the mag's launching its first blog this week. Fantabulous, welcome to 2008!

Also on Sunday: Our Melissa Baron was unleashed on the SF streets, camera in tow. The result? A new Monday morning fashion feature. Beware, MUNI riders and street walkers. You may just see yourselves on ASD one of these weeks. --Janine Kahn

Melissa Baron says:

I hugged the masked free huggers. It felt so tender and love-tastic.
