Cardburg's End of Ages at Cell Space on 4/18
People streamed into Cell Space past 8 p.m. on Friday to view the handbuilt City of Cardburg before its destruction, while the municipality's mayor filmed folks in a staged enactment of the city's Apocalypse for a movie to be released about the Cardburg project.
Children ran wild like bulls in a candy store, but were then asked to leave so that alcohol could be consumed, forcing the adults to take over where they left off. Cardboard puppet shows, a beauty pageant and bands followed one after another as the rooms filled to maximum capacity.
By 12:15 a.m., the City of Cardburg and all its inhabitants exploded as people ripped, jumped and tore apart every piece of cardboard in sight. The back room, still packed, turned into a dance floor that was quickly overrun by flying couches, flying bodies in cardboard attire, and a general drunken mess.
If everyone decided to belligerently beat each other with cardboard to release their aggressions and emotional inhibitions like this Friday night, the world might be a safer place. Who would have thought cardboard could be so entertaining? And hey --it's all recyclable! Props to Cell Space. --Gretchen Robinette
