“The Calm Before the Storm” Solo Exhibition by Erik Otto

Those of you who haven’t heard of the new Gallery Three, listen up. Gallery Three located at 66 6th Street was formerly the devils layer, ha-ha but now is inhabited by new and upcoming artists. Erik Otto’s solo exhibition titled “The Calm Before The Storm” opens on Saturday January 5th from 7-10 pm. Come join us and experience a new and inspiring addition to the San Francisco art world

The incredibly raw, layered and multi-dimensional art of Erick Otto, is one inspired by the new Gallery in the heart of the city. The collection reflects much of what San Francisco natives can relate to living in a big and dangerous city.

His previous show at the Shooting Gallery, “A Long Way Home” was his first début into the San Francisco art seen where he met owner Justin Giarla and led him to partner up in Gallery Three.
Erik Otto’s art studio located behind the gallery, came for him at the right moment with the right ambition to inspire something thoughtful, intuitive and beautiful. Here he finds sanctuary from the notorious 6th street where he has made a quiet safe haven from the storm of the outside world. At this juncture he eternalized his waves of emotion that came with the ups and downs of life and threw them all onto scraps of wood found here and there in the past four months.

“The Calm Before the Storm” portrays a process of chaos to tranquility. At first a build up of multi-layering of color, patterns and writing, then turns into to a release of calm, peaceful storms. The feeling that something is about to happen is captured in the sun beams streaking through the dark dripping clouds, houses hanging from a string above and the reoccurring number 8, symbolizing eternity. In these 13 pieces there is a balance that can only be described as subtly thoughtful and premeditated. The scrap wood, rejected house paint, and found objects from his environment come together to make his unique mark in what he describes as a more than immediate perspective on art. There’s no need to buy new shit to make something great, “you can paint with a broom as long as there’s a message to it.”

This is one chance to see the art and the work behind it. The exhibit opening, January 5th, will include Gallery Three and Erik Otto’s art studio, set in a dreamy and personal setting. Music, art, ambiance what more can you ask for?
