Lowbrow Art Sale: The Best Prints of 2007
It's hard to believe I've even made it to the point to write a top 10 list; not every one of these prints articles came easy. I think they also exacerbated my habit of buying art. Maybe this should really be called the top 10 reasons my family has been eating baked beans for weeks straight.
I do have to say that I am looking forward to the end of 2007. As for any art junkie, this next year means more art to look at and more prints to help me along my goal of eradicating all the blank areas in my house.
So here we go with the most exciting prints from this past year.
Audrey Kawasaki - "Memai"

The one time I was able to write about a print from Audrey, I stated how fast they sold out. This is exactly why I only showed one print from her; they never made it past 30 minutes for me to share. Her work is very hot right now, and I imagine her prints will just keep selling out. So keep en eye on her homepage for more: Audrey Kawasaki
Lori Earley "The Drought"

Lori released some very cool prints this past year, and she had an amazing solo show at the Opera Gallery in New York. Out of the two prints I was able to write about, I enjoyed this one the most. I don't think I ever stated that the model in the painting is alternative fetish model Aprella. I really need to see Lori's work in person. This print is still available.

This print still has my Star Wars buddies foaming at the mouth. It's a very cool print that gives you the ability to have something to do with Star Wars on your wall, but then again it's fine art. You can still buy this one.

Jonathan had a solo show last January, and will have one coming in January at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. I'm excited to see the new work he comes up with. I really love this print, the whole mood and muted color palette that he uses is great. This one is still available.

This was another one of the highly anticipated prints from the Crazy4Cult show. I love the work of Stella anyway, but a piece that includes Marla from Fight Club is just hot. I really like the more intense work that Stella has been working on lately, but this print will always be one my favorites. Apparently you can still buy this one.

It was really hard to pick one print from this up-and-coming artist. She has such a great style, and I know this next year we will be seeing more from her. It might even get to the point she will be selling prints the way Audrey Kawasaki does. For now, you can still buy her prints without having to jump someone.

This print was not only used for the cover of the latest Hi-Fructose, but also made me wish I was still experimenting with hallucinogens. Yoko is one of the new list of artists originally from Japan that we will see a lot more of this coming year, such as Mari Inukai, Fuco Ueda, and Yuka Yumaguchi (Plastique Monkey). This print is still available as well.

Right after this piece was shown on L.A. Ink, it became the number one reason people visited the Creep Machine, all in part of the article I quickly wrote about the idea that a print would soon be available. Michael's other prints such as "Daddy's Girl" sold out very fast, and later on demanded huge amounts on auction sites. This one is still for sale, and I wouldn't wait till it sells out. I know this print looks amazing in person. It comes in this killer folder with a certificate of authenticity, and even a wax seal. Very snazzy. The hard part is finding a frame that looks good enough to hold this print.

David's work is one of the main reasons I got into digital art, and being the huge art history geek that I am, seeing him make a whole series inspired by classical pieces was great. Even if you don't like the older pieces, you can't deny that David can really make some eerie-looking images. I really suggest heading over to his site to the see the rest of his "Interpretation Series" as maybe pick this print up.

Not only was he able to curate a great show (The Talking Board Show), Chet also had some very cool prints come out. Two were released through the Copro Nason Gallery and are huge 40" x 30" giclee prints on stretched canvas. The site says Black Magick, but this is actually "I Want You".
