Karaoke Opportunities: Punk Rock Singalong at Minna Gallery 12/6

Why is it most karaoke bars feature every Journey song known to man, but never seem to come through with Black Flag's "TV Party?" Rise above the standard songbook at the Punk Rock Karaoke, where you can belt out your favorite 2-minute ditty with an all-star punk band. I got dibbs on Sailin' On. Rock for light:

111 MINNA GALLERY PRESENTS PUNK ROCK KARAOKE Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 9 PM

San Francisco, CA - 111 Minna Gallery is proud to present PUNK ROCK KARAOKE
on Thursday, December 6th from 9pm - 2 am. Established on New Year¹s Eve
1996, Punk Rock Karaoke has been touring the country with a stellar line up
of punk rock talent lead by Eric Melvin, guitarist of NOFX, and master of
ceremonies of the Punk Rock Karaoke band. 111 Minna Gallery is thrilled to
present this one night only punk rock extravaganza with gracious support
from our sponsors Heineken, Dewer's, and The San Francisco Bay Guardian.
Tickets for Punk Rock Karaoke are $10 at the door and can be purchased in
advance at Ticketweb.com

The motto is "We play, you sing." Punk Rock Karaoke takes DIY one step
further and any member of the audience can be the star of the show. Choose
from a list of pre-1983 Punk Rock classics and the band is yours for one
two-and-a-half minute song. Lyric sheets provided for those daring the
stage.

The band of punk rock veterans also includes a shifting line-up that has
boasted members and ex-members of Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, NOFX, Black
Flag, Minutemen, Devo and Social Distortion. The current line up is Greg
Hetson of Bad Religion and Circle Jerks, Steve Soto of the Adolescents,
Derek O¹Brien, early Social Distortion drummer, and Eric Melvin of NOFX.
"We¹ve kept the same line-up now for three or four years now, which helps
because everybody remembers the songs slightly differently," Melvin says.

--Oscar Pascual

"Singers reactions and what they might do on stage is what makes the show,
really," Melvin continues. Everyone has his or her own interpretation. Some
do their best Joey Ramone, Johnny Rotten, or Iggy Pop impersonations. Some
rely on raw energy and rile up the crowd. Some people come up and just do
some crazy dance or performance art to the song- you just never know what
you will get.

This tour PRK will film footage during selected shows for a CD/DVD to
accompany a Kung Fu Records release, due out next year by mastermind
producer and engineer, Derek O¹Brien. Singers already recorded for the CD
are Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio), Jim Lindburg (Pennywise), Joey Cape
(Lagwagon), Mike Herrera (MXPX), Kris Roe (The Ataris), Dickie Berret (The
Mighty Mighty Bosstones), Spike Slawson (Me First and The Gimme Gimmes).
Slated to record are Fat Mike (NOFX), Dave King (Flogging Molly) and Jordan
Pundik (New Found Glory).

PRK has played venues ranging from small restaurants to New York¹s CBGB¹s to
the main stage on Van¹s Warped Tour. First labeled "Pogo A Gogo" by co-
conspirator and restaurateur Fred Eric, the band is in their 8th year and
its players are well known as the originators of Punk Rock Karaoke.

Established in 1993 in downtown San Francisco 111 Minna Gallery is in the
business of Art & Leisure. The gallery showcases a unique blend of local and
international artists, world class DJ's, live performance, and film
screenings in an elegantly urban and ever-changing 4,000 square foot space.
The gallery is open to the public Tuesday through Friday 12-9 pm and nightly
on a rotating schedule for special events.
