Peking Duck-Style Squirrel Pancakes: Is The World Ready?

Categories: Food

I hate to break it to you, but the world isn't such a small place after all, as evidenced by this news headline from faraway Cumbria, England: "Top Lakeland Restaurant Serves up Peking duck-style squirrel pancakes"

Yes, you heard it right. The Famous Wild Boar Hotel is dishing up free grey squirrel canapes to diners, from squirrels caught and "dispatched" (don't you just love the delicate English sensibility?) in the hotel's surrounding 72 acres of woodland.

Local marketing guru James Cookson sums up the situation as such: "Grey squirrels can be eaten and there is no reason why they shouldn't be eaten." Squirrel eating, it should be pointed out, is not without precedent in the United States, most notably in the south (surprise, surprise), in Brunswick Stew.
