Killer Art Prints: Family Guy, Ren and Stimpy, Flaming Bags-o-Poo

ASD's resident art expert Josh from Creep Machine drops some visual science on us every Tuesday. Another great batch, Josh. -d2

Glenn Barr "Avenjah and Destroyah (set)"
glenn_barr_avengah_and_destroyah.jpg
He is one of Detroit's most celebrated artists, and quite possibly the reason I am so much in love with the current art scene. He has done background styling for Ren & Stimpy, a Bjork video, and been published in numerous magazines. He has such a dynamic, amazing style. Very large brush stroked, outlines objects in the background and a '60/'70s vibe to figures. This piece in particular is two prints, each one 24” X 8”. This is from an edition of 50, and I know this set has sold out many times. I'm actually surprised they are available here.

Kathie Olivas "The Abduction"
kathie_olivas.jpg
A multi-media artist from Florida, Kathie has a colorfully surreal style, with ageless characters set in very odd, or often eerie scenes. She has a massive list of shows under her belt, and has shown at some of the most respected galleries. This particular piece is from an edition of 40 and is signed. It's quite a nutty piece, the expressions on the rabbits are freaking me out, that and that tentacled boy suit. Definitely a conversation piece, and it has that amazing color that Kathie is known for.

Brandon Ragnari Johnson "HOS On the Hill"
HOS-OnTheHill.jpg
The artists most commonly know as Ragnari, has lived all over the world and worked for such clients as: Disney, MTV, Nickelodeon and others. He has a great style, kind of reminds me of a dash of Glenn Barr's women, and the styling of Shag. The colors of course are all Ragnar, very bright and cutting. The kind of image that just socks you in the face every time you look at it. There are only 10 of these left, but on the same page there are six different prints by the artist

Bob Dob "Shithead"
bobdob_shithead.jpg
Coming from another great print site, Thumbtack Press, is a miniature version of Bob Dob's 'Shithead' piece. Bob has a very smooth style, a bad boy image often put into odd situations or scenes. He has had pieces in many shows, such as the 'I am 8-Bit' show hosted at Gallery 1988. Of course this piece looks amazing, but come on, the guy's head is a flaming bag of poo, you know that alone makes it a fine purchase. Finally we get to see what a shithead looks like, and by the image apparently Erik is the shithead.

Brandt Peters "Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time"
brandt_peters_threatenme.jpg
You can see the similarities in style to Kathie Olivas, I'm sure the two being married gives them the ability to inspire and share techniques with each other. Brandt's work tends to be a bit trippier to me. This piece is from a group show of artists that created pieces based on the Family Guy cartoon. There are some great pieces in that show, I picked this piece because I really like the cheeky play on the original Coppertone ad, except of course the dog in this one clearly tossed on those martinis and she doesn't seem to mind.
